Day 2 – As we begin this season of Lent, the desire of our hearts is to draw “Closer” to God. For the next 39 days, we will be reading through the Gospel of Mark to prepare our hearts for Good Friday and Easter. Everyday (except Sundays) we will post a reading and short reflection on the passage for the day.
Today’s Reading: Mark 1:1-15
Reflection Verse: 2 as it is written in Isaiah the prophet: “I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way”
As we fast and pray and get closer to God, the more we begin to see how short we fall. Yet, he still accepts us. We also begin to develop a heart for those who are lost and have yet to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. God wants to let the lost know that he will accept them too.
I love that this passage takes place in the wilderness. So many people we all know are lost in the wilderness of life. Just as John was in the wilderness proclaiming the good news about Jesus, we should also have a passion for telling the lost about the good news of Jesus. We are his modern day messengers! God wants to use YOU to share His good news with the lost…
One of the expectations for Lent this year is to be praying for ONE person who we know is lost and needs to hear the good news about Jesus.
Who is that one person in your life? Will you share the good news about Jesus with them? Will you stop right now and begin to pray for them?
PRAYER: Lord, give me a heart for the lost. Help me to see the lost the way you do. Give me the desire and courage to share the Good News about Jesus Christ with the lost. Remind me to pray for ______ (name of person) daily over the next forty days. Please bring this person to come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior. Use me in the process. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
