Day 8 – Remember that Jesus is King
Today’s Reading: Mark 3:7-19
Reflection Verse: 11 Whenever the impure spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.” 12 But he gave them strict orders not to tell others about him.
Our lives are sometimes filled conflict and drama. We go through challenging situations with family members, friends, enemies, and even strangers. Many times we struggle in vain because we treat our situations as a struggle against that person. But the Bible clearly tells us that our struggle is not against man. Ephesians 6:12 reads, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
We encounter powers of this dark world and spiritual forces of evil everyday. The image of a demon bowing down to Jesus should remind us how to fight our battles in the world. Give them over to Jesus! He reigns supreme over the darkness. When demons encounter Jesus, they yield to His sovereignty. They bow down in His presence as he has authority over them. As Christians, we fight different than the world.
Turn over your opposition to Jesus and “be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power,” not yours! A quiet prayer goes a lot further than an outburst of retaliation.
- What is one difficult situation with another person that you need to turn over to Jesus?
Prayer: Lord, You are ruler of all. I surrender my struggle with _____________________ (insert person’s name) to you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
