Remember, God is in Control

Re”Closer” Day 11 – When life goes nowhere or all over the place, remember God is in control.

Today’s Reading: Mark 4:21-41

Reflection Verse: 40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

In today’s Reading, Jesus blessed his disciples with a couple more parables about seeds. In the first, v26-29, the farmer scatters seed and without his help, the seed grows and produce a harvest. In the next, a microscopic seed is planted and produces the largest of plants. Both parables remind us that God is in control. Humble beginnings are no indication of God’s awesome power that produces outcomes beyond our imagination.

After explaining these parables and leaving to travel with his disciples, their boat encounters a frightening storm. Up to this point, Jesus has been healing the sick left and right and driving out demons. Jesus has given his disciples reasons only to have faith. But his disciples still experience fear, even while in his presence.

Once again, Jesus uses takes the opportunity to demonstrate that he is all-powerful — over nature, over demons, over sickness, over all things. And he rebuked the disciples for their lack of faith.

A friend of mine recently said to me “looking at all God has done in your life, you have enough evidence to know that God is going to take care of you in what you’re going through.” He is right, and I offer the same to you. God has brought you this far, don’t doubt or fear that somehow God is going to forget you now. All that he’s done in the past is evidence that He is in control now. Regardless if things look like they’re going nowhere, or if things look like they’re out of control, have faith and fear not! God is in control…

Reflect:

  • What storm in your life needs calming?
  • How can you replace fear with faith in that situation?

Prayer:  Lord, you have not given me a spirit of fear. Help me to have the courage and faith to trust you through all of life’s circumstances, regardless of how things may look. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
